Shosugiban Library
Sho-sugi-ban, basically meaning burned cedar wood. This is a mix of river recovered cypress , oiled with pure linseed oil and burnt new growth cypress. The library was fitted between 12″ x12″ salvaged heart pine posts.

Ammonia Fumed White Oak Custom Library Shelves
The project called for a quiet dark wood, no overly discerning grain, just nice rhythems. I happened to have some nice fumed oak laying around that happened to do nicely. The white oak is fumed with ammonia and the tannins react turning the oak, if given enough time, black. Tis little trick was discovered hundreds of years ago in horse stables. It was popularized during the Mission Furniture period.

Black Walnut Bookcase
Our client had a 16’ Long and 10’ high wall in their house that just needed something to hold their modest board game collection. We brought in some nice walnut for the job from a mill in Pennsylvania that I have a special relationship with. We were sent several slabs of walnut from the butt of one tree, maybe 6 of them 30” wide, nice pieces. The results were wonderful especially after the library was put to use with barely enough room to hold their collection. Custom sliding ladder
