Our client came to us with old growth Heart Pine salvaged from the waterway running though his family’s property. The ends of the logs were cut with an axe, typically dating the tree felling in the 1800’s. The boards were heavy and full of resin. Pine of this quality is one of the most difficult to work with. Because the wood is so resinous sanding only produces clogged paper. The wood’s machining marks are removed with a hand plane or scraper blade. The finish is Rubio Monocoat, hand rubbed oil.
