Drawing inspiration from the techniques of André-Charles Boulle’s marquetry and the delicate intricacy of pierced carving, I aimed to create a piece that balances historical richness with the expressive character of modern craft.

The tabletop features a marquetry pattern evolved from my Brain Matter series,  Rather than replicate Boulle’s style exactly, I chose to reinterpret in a anthropomorphic style

Below, the pierced carving is hand-carved, facets left, its openwork a visual counterpoint to the solidity of the top, giving space for light and shadow to animate the form.

This piece invites closer inspection. It’s meant to live at the intersection of furniture and sculpture—functional, but expressive. A quiet celebration of historical technique, natural material, and the human hand.
