For this project we used quarter sawn Red Elm, one of our favorite species when the goal is a clean, restrained, modern look that still feels warm and organic. The straight grain and subtle movement of quarter sawn Red Elm create a calm visual texture that works beautifully with simple architectural lines and contemporary spaces.

Compared to white oak, Red Elm carries a naturally deeper, richer tone while maintaining a similar open pore structure. That pore structure gives the surface depth and character, allowing light to move across the material in a way that immediately communicates authenticity. It has the unmistakable presence of real wood — natural, unique, and impossible to perfectly replicate.

We are drawn to materials that feel refined without appearing overdesigned, and Red Elm consistently delivers that balance. The grain remains elegant and understated from a distance, while up close the figure and texture reveal subtle complexity and craftsmanship.
